Frasi di Mark Latham
Data di nascita: 28. Febbraio 1961
Mark William Latham is an Australian political commentator and politician. He was the leader of the Australian Labor Party and Leader of the Opposition from December 2003 to January 2005. He led the party to defeat at the 2004 federal election. He is the current state leader of Pauline Hanson's One Nation in New South Wales after joining the party in November 2018.
Born in Sydney, Latham attended Hurlstone Agricultural High School before going on to study economics at the University of Sydney. He was elected to the Liverpool City Council in 1987, and became mayor in 1991. Latham entered federal parliament at a 1994 by-election for the Division of Werriwa, a safe Labor seat. He was included in Labor's shadow cabinet after the 1996 federal election, but left the frontbench in 1998 following a dispute with the party leader, Kim Beazley. He returned to the shadow cabinet in 2001, when Simon Crean became leader.
Latham became leader of the Labor Party in December 2003, following Simon Crean's resignation, when he narrowly defeated Kim Beazley in a leadership election. He was the youngest leader of the party since Chris Watson in 1901. At the 2004 federal election, the Labor Party lost five seats and reduced its share of the two-party-preferred vote, with the incumbent prime minister, John Howard, re-elected to a fourth term. Latham resigned as leader in January 2005, and left parliament at the same time. After leaving politics, he published a memoir, The Latham Diaries, in which he condemned the general state of political life in Australia.
After leaving politics, Latham became a political commentator. From 4 December 2016, Latham began co-hosting Outsiders on Sky News Live. However, his employment at Sky News was terminated on 29 March 2017 after he made insulting comments about a fellow presenter, and the teenage daughter of a governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia. In May 2017, Latham announced that he had joined the Liberal Democratic Party, and was open to standing for them at future elections. In November 2018, Latham announced that he had joined the NSW branch of One Nation and would stand as a candidate for the upper house at the upcoming state election.
Frasi Mark Latham
„“This task, in fact, requires a new type of politics. The left and right have been as bad as each other. The left has allowed its distrust of markets and endless faith in government to obscure the importance of civil society. The right has been so focused on replacing the state with markets that it has forgotten how to cultivate a trusting society.”“
„“The Third Way is neither anti-state nor anti-market; it sees both sides of the old politics as a positive force for progress. It simply seeks to balance them against the virtues of mutual trust and shared obligation. It is, uniquely in the politics of our time, pro-market, pro-state and pro-civil society.”“
„“The Industrial Age was characterised by the aggregation of economics and governance. This was the era of massification and standardisation -- big industrial corporations, big government departments and big interest groups. The Information Age is turning these principles on their head. It is an era of disaggregation and demassification, hence the stunning growth of small businesses and niche markets.”“
