George Roger Waters è un cantautore, polistrumentista e compositore britannico.

È stato bassista e cantante dei Pink Floyd dal 1965 fino al 1985, anno in cui lasciò il gruppo e proseguì come solista. Nell'ultimo decennio in cui era nella band, Waters ne era diventato il principale autore delle musiche, nonché autore unico dei testi, come nel caso dell'album The Final Cut e della quasi totalità dei precedenti The Wall e Animals. Entrambi gli album sono concept scritti da Waters.

Waters è considerato uno dei più grandi parolieri della storia della musica, assieme a Bob Dylan e Neil Young; i suoi testi sono incentrati su argomenti di critica e denuncia sociale, politica e psicologia.

Come musicista, soprattutto nei Pink Floyd, rientra fra le figure di maggior rilievo prima del rock psichedelico e poi del progressive. Proprio per i suoi testi spicca all'interno del genere trattando temi sociali e politici, non presenti invece in altre formazioni e figure di primo piano.
