Il principe Filippo Mountbatten, duca di Edimburgo , è il marito della regina Elisabetta II nonché, dal 10 giugno 2011, il Lord High Admiral della Royal Navy, titolo cedutogli dalla consorte in occasione del suo novantesimo compleanno. Filippo è sposato con la regina Elisabetta II dal 20 novembre 1947 e ha quattro figli: Carlo, Anna, Andrea ed Edoardo.



Nato principe di Grecia, nipote del re di Grecia Costantino I , prima del matrimonio rinunciò ai propri titoli greci, fu accolto nella Chiesa d'Inghilterra e adottò il cognome Mountbatten. Il giorno dopo il suo matrimonio ottenne il trattamento di "Altezza Reale" da re Giorgio VI e il giorno seguente i titoli di duca di Edimburgo, conte di Merioneth e barone Greenwich. La regina Elisabetta II lo ha creato principe del Regno Unito nel 1957.

Come consorte della sovrana ha affiancato la regina nei suoi viaggi ufficiali nel Commonwealth e nel mondo, apparendo frequentemente agli occhi del pubblico. È il più longevo consorte di un monarca britannico: infatti il 19 aprile 2009, con 62 anni e 71 giorni di matrimonio, ha superato anche la regina consorte Carlotta di Meclemburgo-Strelitz, moglie di re Giorgio III. Oltre agli attributi regali, Filippo è stato anche patrono di una serie di organizzazioni, incluso il The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, un premio a lui dedicato, ed è stato a capo delle Università di Cambridge e di Edimburgo. Sin dalla sua visita in Antartide del 1956, si è impegnato per sensibilizzare l'opinione pubblica sul rapporto uomo-ambiente, tema sul quale ha anche pubblicato degli scritti. Wikipedia
