Shirley Jackson è stata una scrittrice e giornalista statunitense.

Particolarmente nota come autrice de L'incubo di Hill House del 1959 e La lotteria, ha esordito scrivendo per la prestigiosa testata The New Yorker nel 1948. Nella sua carriera ha scritto anche opere per bambini, come Nine Magic Wishes, e persino un adattamento teatrale di Hansel e Gretel, dal nome The Bad Children.

Nel 1965 la Jackson muore per infarto durante il sonno, all'età di 48 anni. Si pensa che la cura a base di psicofarmaci che stava facendo possa aver contribuito.
