Poi condussero il camion attraverso il confine, ottennero il permesso di valicarlo, e rovesciarono il suo contenuto nella zona di Berlino Ovest. È superfluo dire che i berlinesi dell'ovest erano infuriati e desiderosi di 'prendersi una rivincita' su di loro. Fortunatamente, un uomo molto saggio intervenne per dare un consiglio completamente diverso. Come risultato, la risposta arrivò in forma di un camion carico di cibo (che era scarso a Berlino Est), vestiti (anche scarsi), forniture mediche (ancora più scarse), una serie di altri prodotti di necessità. Portarono il camion attraverso il confine, lo scaricarono attentamente, e lasciarono un bel cartello che recitava, "Ciascuno dà a seconda della sua capacità di dare".”
