“Ho buone ragioni per credere, senza voler giurare, che non ci sono attualmente altri esemplari al mondo di questo libro [lo Spaccio de la bestia trionfante], eccetto il mio. Prima che io l'avessi mostrato a Bayle, Schopp era il solo che ne avesse riferito il titolo, nella sua lettera a Rittershausen; ma è certo che non aveva mai visto il libro, perché ha creduto che la Bestia Trionfante fosse il Papa e che Bruno avesse intenzione di lusingare i protestanti; invece per Bestia egli intende ogni religione rivelata in generale, di qualunque tipo sia, e in qualunque modo avvenga che essa trionfi nel Mondo. Sia la religione pagana, sia la giudaica o la cristiana, egli prende di mira, le mette in ridicolo, le rigetta allo stesso modo senza cerimonie e senza eccezioni.”

Questo ragionamento poi non è limitato alla nostra specie, ma vale anche per qualsiasi altro ordine di animali e piante, o per ogni altro essere; infatti tutti sono stati trasformati gli uni negli altri mediante innumerevoli e continue rivoluzioni, così che non c'è nulla di più certo del fatto che ogni cosa materiale è tutte le cose, e che tutte le cose si riducono a una sola.”
