El Lissitzky, pseudonimo di Lazar' Markovič Lisickij - in russo: Лазарь Маркович Лисицкий? - , è stato un pittore, fotografo, tipografo, architetto e grafico russo.

Esponente dell'avanguardia russa, aderì dapprima alla corrente del suprematismo, con l'amico Kazimir Malevič. Famosi sono i suoi quadri denominati proun.

Successivamente, insieme ad Aleksandr Rodčenko, si diede alla sperimentazione, unendosi al movimento costruttivista. Adoperò le tecniche del fotomontaggio e del collage, molto spesso a scopo propagandistico. Lavorò a pubblicità e manifesti divulgativi per l'Unione Sovietica durante gli anni dei conflitti mondiali.

Nel 1921 si recò a Berlino come ambasciatore della cultura dell'URSS nella Germania. Durante quel soggiorno El Lissitzky si dedicò alla grafica; a Berlino, inoltre, ebbe modo di frequentare diversi artisti, fra i quali Kurt Schwitters, László Moholy-Nagy e Theo van Doesburg. Wikipedia

“We analyzed the first stage of our construction, confined to two-dimensional space, and found it to be as durable and resistant as the earth itself.
