Qualche cosa di analogo si deve appunto pensare riguardo a Dio e supporre che, quando concepí il disegno di fondare "la grande città", in una prima fase ne strutturò nella propria mente i modelli secondo cui sarebbe stata creata, componendo i quali portò a compimento prima il mondo intelleggibile e poi, servendosi di esso come prototipo, quello sensibile.”

In the case of growths which spring from the earth, neither are the trees the fruit nor the fruit the trees, but in the soul’s plantation the saplings of wisdom, of justice, of temperance, have their whole being transformed completely into fruits.”
