Per Aristotele una tale questione, evidentemente assurda ai suoi occhi, non esisteva. Egli era convinto che la verità "Socrate è stato avvelenato", così come la verità "un cane è stato avvelenato", fosse superiore a ogni obiezione divina e umana. La cicuta non fa distinzione tra Socrate e un cane. E noi, "costretti a seguire i fenomeni", "costretti dalla stessa verità", siamo obbligati nei nostri giudizi mediati o immediati, a non fare alcuna differenza tra Socrate e un cane rabbioso.”
