Dmítrij Dmítrievič Šostakóvič è stato un compositore e pianista sovietico.

Ritenuto tra i più importanti compositori di scuola russa e, più in generale, della musica del Novecento, Šostakovič ebbe un travagliato rapporto con il governo sovietico: subì infatti due denunce ufficiali a causa delle sue composizioni e i suoi lavori furono periodicamente censurati. La sua totale riabilitazione avvenne solamente dopo la morte di Stalin, e culminò con la sua elezione al Consiglio supremo sovietico e con la sua nomina ad ambasciatore dell'URSS in importanti eventi culturali di tutto il mondo. Ricevette moltissimi riconoscimenti e titoli internazionali.

La sua vasta produzione comprende musica sinfonica e corale, ma anche molta musica da camera, per balletti e per film. Šostakovič è stato infatti uno dei più prolifici autori di musiche per pellicole della Russia sovietica. Wikipedia
