Conviene ascoltre i bambini più grandi che stanno nelle classi avanti perché ti possono informare sui gusti del maestro che hai al momento, cosa gli piace e cosa non sopporta. C'è un maestro che ti picchia se non sai che Eamon De Valera è il più grand' uomo mai vissuto sulla terra. Ce n'è un altro che ti picchia se non sai che il più grand' uomo mai vissuto sulla terra è stato Michael Collins. Il maestro Benson odia l'America perciò bisogna ricordarsi di odiare l'America, sennò lui ti picchia. Il maestro O'Dea odia l'Inghilterra perciò bisogna ricordarsi di odiare l'Inghilterra, sennò lui ti picchia. E se per caso dici una cosa bella qualsiasi su Oliver Cromwell ti picchiano tutti quanti.”

Qualche anno dopo emigrava in Inghilterra dove faceva il muratore o si arruolava nelle forze armate di Sua Maestà per difendere l'Impero.”
